Route 309 Expressway
Route 309 Expressway Improvement Project
The multi-year, $300 million reconstruction project is scheduled to end by December 2010.
Motorists will notice several changes including:
* Reconstructed concrete pavement between Cheltenham Avenue and PA 63 (Welsh Road)
* Repaired, modified or replaced 42 bridges, culverts and overpasses
* Constructed a new Fort Washington/PA Turnpike Exchange
* Constructed a new PA 152/Easton Road Interchange
* Added a northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp at the Norristown Road/Springhouse Interchange
* Lengthened 16 other on- and off-ramps
* Improved the intersection of PA 309 (Bethlehem Pike) with PA 63 (Welsh Road)
* Widened the roadway shoulders and median
* Installed sound walls at several locations
* Installed 50-inch high concrete median barrier/glare screen
* Improved storm water drainage
* Installed traffic cameras and other Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components
