New Motorist Laws
Law now requires motorists to turn on headlights when using wipers. Motorists who do not comply can face a fine of $25 but with fees and other associated costs, the penalty would approach $100.

Law requires motorists to move their vehicles off the roadway after minor accidents.
According to Rep. Kate Harper, drivers will be required to remove their vehicles from traffic lanes as long as no serious injuries were sustained and the vehicles are drivable. A driver could request another person to move the vehicle as long as he/she possesses a valid driver's license.

Drivers who do not remove their vehicles from the roadway after a minor accident, will be guilty of a summary offense and they will incur fines of $50 plus costs and surcharges.

Also, this bill increases the penalties for speeding in a school zone. The new fine is up to $500 when the driver exceeds the speed limit by more than 11 m.p.h. The existing fine of $35 in the same for drivers speeding less than 11 m.p.h.

Drivers will receive three points on the offending driver's record.

Second and subsequent conviction of speeding through a school zone will give the driver a 60-day license suspension.
