The Partnership TMA of Montgomery County facilitates several youth summer programs.

All programs are experiential and project based.

Creative Community Camps
The camp is a one-week theme camp developed for youths in grades one through five. The "community" theme pertains to issues regarding land use, environment, healthy life styles, transportation, and stewardship. This camp is project-based and interactive.  The campers work in teams to develop a plan for a model community. On the last day of camp, the culminating project plans are presented to a "mock planning commission." The camper's community is built from recycled corrugated boxes and modeled in a grid on outdoor fields.

The expanded youth programs include middle school and high school students.

These programs are designed as leadership development workshops dealing with city planning issues.

The unique characteristic of this program is that students are given a real challenge facing a local municipality. Students have an opportunity to listen to guest speakers and learn about a community through many methods. Also, students are encouraged to work in teams and to use their researching, problem solving, writing, presenting and critical thinking skills.

In addition to the real life challenge, there are many out-of-classroom experiences and real-life situations that students learn to handle.

Students working on these projects are given an opportunity to present their findings and suggestions to a municipal governing body. This gives young people an opportunity to learn that they have a voice in the community.
